The Start

As mentioned in the previous post I've started taking photographs for my degree show project. Going well so far, but we'll see how long that lasts... Here are a few from my first shoot.

Out of a rut

Getting back into the swing of uni is always a tough time but for once I have an established idea of what I want to do for my degree show, i'm excited about it ...but now I just need to get into the habit of shooting consistently. So to get out of the rut I turn back to the challenge I find doing a self portrait.

After getting this quick test shoot out the way, I've managed to do a successful shoot this weekend so even though I hate pictures of myself it's come in handy just to get me out of a rut.

507

So I finally got my book back which I titled 507 that I handed in for uni based around documenting my facebook. Although it wasn't completely successful I was definitely pleased with the layout and the overall finish. Here is a small selection of photographs to give you a feel of what it looks like.

Facebook Family

A work in progress - Currently looking at ideas of 'family' in a digital culture. Using facebook as a starting point and taking pictures of found images from facebook to hopefully build up an accumulation of  what I consider various types of  family in my life. And in turn, archive the moment at this time.

Moving onwards and upwards with a new beginnings of a project, hopefully looking at ideas of portraiture and context. And so here are some awkward self portraits.

Finals

So the exhibition is over and work comes down at the weekend, here are my selection of photographs that were up on display.

And here is my artist statement :

The project titled - ‘Just Before…’ uses students predominantly as subject matter and holds an emphasis on the representation of our generation. The work looks at films with an undertone of phobia as an insight into the human psyche, exploring ideas of representing fear within our society. By juxtaposing cinematic conventions, selecting stills from a narrative flow the viewer is given time to gaze at the scene presented to them. Directly taking influence and compositional features from the stills of old Hitchcock films, when the narrative itself no longer becomes the main focal point ideas of tension, fear and suspense are made more apparent. By focusing on the moments just before the peak of fear, the repetition highlights the perpetual cycle of fear, the unknown, that has never been more relevant to current society.

again apologies for the scanning.
